The celebration, and work, begin!

We are preparing this week for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is January 21st. Second and third grade will be working collaboratively, something Dr. King was interested in having people do, collaborate.
Second and third grade will look to the quilts of Gee's Bend for inspiration. Click here to see some of the designs.
The Whitney Museum of Art had an exhibit in 2002 featuring the quilts and you can click here for more information about the history and geography of the community.

Fourth grade will be learning about the differences and similarities between Adinkra fabric printing and Indian block printing today.
Here is a video about Indian block printing that is used currently for textiles sold at West Elm.
