Lower School Art Quarter 1
Providence St. Mel 2013

Quarter one begins with opening the drawing center to the students. The children can use pencils, pens, crayons, oil pastels, chalk pastels among other drawing media. The drawing center is also home to tools like the drawing how-to books and drawing models.

First graders will be learning how to use story illustration and narrative sequence together in the art room. They will also be asked to create artwork about family and one reflecting on nature. We will learn about the book illustrator and collage artist Eric Carle as the college center is opened to the students.

When the painting center is opened the students will get good use out of the smock they brought to school. We will talk about primary colors and watercolor paint.

Towards the end of the quarter the first graders will be quizzed on topics including media and tools, types of line, primary colors, and Eric Carle. After this quiz is graded it will be a great help in studying for the final test. The students will also complete a final writing assignment that when graded will be good to look over before the final.
